“When I was younger, I could stay up all night and still feel fine. Now, I need a warm-up just to get off the sofa.”
As we get older, there are things we should take care of before spending money on expensive supplements or the latest health devices.
And they are…
These three things!
1. Muscles That Keep You Moving
As we age, muscle mass and physical strength can naturally decline.
If climbing a few flights of stairs leaves you out of breath, or if you automatically let out a groan every time you stand up from the floor, your muscles may be quietly sending out an SOS.
You do not need to lift heavy barbells at the gym.
Start with exercises you can do consistently, such as walking, slowly standing up from a chair, or doing gentle squats.
Having enough money in the bank is important in old age, but having strong enough legs to go to the bathroom on your own is just as important.
That is also why eating enough protein, including meat, becomes increasingly important as we get older.
2. Someone Who Checks In on You
As we age, the depth of our relationships becomes more important than the number of people we know.
You may have 1,000 contacts on your phone, but if there is no one you can call when life gets difficult, only your smartphone is rich in connections.
Reach out to family members and friends first.
Make time to share a meal or take a walk with someone close to you.
Good relationships can help reduce loneliness and bring emotional comfort.
Sometimes, a simple question such as, “Have you eaten?” can feel warmer than an expensive gift.
Start building meaningful friendships with the people around you today.
And if you have only recently entered middle age, try calling your parents once in a while.
Calling often may be difficult, but even an occasional phone call can mean a great deal.
3. Something That Makes You Look Forward to Tomorrow
We all need something that makes us excited for the next day, whether it is a hobby, traveling, studying, gardening, or caring for a houseplant.
No matter how long we live, if every day feels dull, each day may begin to feel like a Monday.
Your goal does not have to be grand.
A morning walk, your favorite music, or trying one new recipe can be enough.
When you truly think about it, every moment is new.
Let us welcome each moment with a fresh state of mind.
In the end, what we need most as we grow older is a body that can still move, someone with whom we can share our feelings, and something that makes us look forward to tomorrow.
Do not try to prepare all three at once.
Today, simply begin with a 10-minute walk.
This very moment is a new moment.
And this moment will never come again.
We may not be able to stop aging, but we can gradually change the way we grow older.
May this moment be a happy one for you.
